Childhood Top 5...

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 6:13 AM
One of my dA friends, :icontheflashguy: posted this survey in his journal. Seeing that I'm 30 years older than he is, I thought I'd post my own and see just how different (or similar!) they would be.

Top 5 movies from your childhood:

5) The Car (1977) – My parents should never have let me watch that movie!! It gave me nightmares for years.

4) Peter Pan (1953) – I wanted to fly! Mom was worried I would jump off the roof trying.

3) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) – Oompa, loompa, oompa-dee-doo…

2) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) – An intelligent flying car! It was steam-punk meets transformers! ‘Nuff said. (Written by none other than Ian Fleming)

1) Star Wars (1977) – The only movie I ever watched with my mouth agape from start to finish. I was stunned, cowed, awed, amazed…you name it. No movie has ever surpassed that feeling since.

Top 5 books from your childhood:

5) The "Birds and the Bees" book. – Required reading in my house as my parents absolutely refused to discuss "that subject" with either myself or my brothers. Of course, I never told them that by the time they handed me that book, I had already found my father’s stash of porn.

4) Twas the Night Before Christmas – My parents got me the poem in a book that had pop-ups and "scratch and sniff" peppermint and cocoa. I loved that book so much I got it for my kids. (And will get it again for my grandkids, if it’s still in print.)

3) Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective – He could whup the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew!

2) Titan, Wizard, & Demon from John Varley – A living, organic space-station!

1) All of the Xanth novels from Piers Anthony – My favorite author of all-time.

Top 5 Video games from your childhood:

5) Pong – It was the first video game we ever had at home. (I sucked at it)

4) Space Invaders – The first video arcade game I ever played. (I sucked at it too)

3) Tail Gunner - Spending countless hours fighting off hoards of stick-figure spaceships!

2) Battlezone – Who cared if it was raster graphics and green-screen? You were driving and shooting a frigg’n tank! (I kicked-butt at this game.)

1) Tempest – I could buy a car with the amount of quarters I dropped into one of these machines. (I was a Tempest god!)

Top 5 TV shows from your childhood:

5) Bill Cosby and the Cosby kids. – Never missed an episode.

4) The Bugs Bunny / Road Runner Hour – They consider this “too violent” for today’s youth, but will let them play “Metal of Honor” to keep them quiet.

3) Captain Kangaroo – Bunny Rabbit and Mister Moose will live forever! Unleash the ping-pong balls!

2) Scooby Doo – I wanted Daphne to be my girlfriend.

1) Lost in Space – Greatest Science Fiction Show of all time! Well...ok...is was pure camp...but I watched it like it was the gospel according to Will Robinson!

Top 5 moments from your childhood: (You know, awesome things like a trip to Disneyland or something funny happening you can remember)

5) First time flying a plane. – Not flying IN a plane, but taking the controls and making it do what I wanted it to.

4) When my youngest brother came home from the hospital. – You mean we get to keep him?

3) Riding "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" at Disney World. – It was all fake, right? I mean, we survived the giant squid and everything!

2) Having the prettiest girl in class tell me she liked me. – I didn’t stop smiling for weeks!

1) Watching man land on the moon. – Sitting at my grandparent’s house, watching it all on their black-and-white TV. Then, that night, going outside and looking at the moon…trying to find them.

Well thanks! I'm having a bear of a time getting the painting techniques down. Everything looks like it was scribbled on by a second grader with crayons.

Oh well...this is how I learn stuff. :D

You're very welcome!
